GET THE FACTS: On Healthcare, Ralph Alvarado is Wrong for Kentucky
Alvarado wants to decimate Medicaid and defund rural hospitals, while he has profited from exploiting our seniors
Lexington, KY – When it comes to healthcare, career politician Ralph Alvarado has the wrong prescription. Alvarado has doubled down on cuts to Medicaid that would threaten the health coverage of nearly 200,000 Kentuckians and jeopardize several rural hospitals, including six in Kentucky’s 6th. Alvarado was implicated in a Medicaid fraud scheme.
Here are the facts:
On Alvarado’s Disastrous Healthcare Record:
- Alvarado has supported the One Big Beautiful Bill, which cuts Medicaid funding and healthcare for more than 200,000 Kentuckians who rely on the program for their care.
- Alvarado backed Matt Bevin so much, he became his running mate in 2019 AFTER he tried to dismantle Medicaid expansion that ensures so many in Kentucky and keeps our rural hospitals solvent
Nursing Home Neglect- Enriching Himself at the Expense of Kentuckians’ Health:
- Ralph Alvarado has been implicated in a Medicaid fraud scheme before he served in the Kentucky State Legislature. A home-health agency sent him gifts and campaign donations when he sent his patients to them. In one year alone, he made 457 referrals to the agency, resulting in over a million dollars in Medicare payments.
- He oversaw five 1-star nursing homes with poor ratings that have racked up $400,000 in fines over three years for the abuse, neglect, and wrongful death of patients. He also oversaw facilities that “have been sued at least 13 times between them since 2023 for personal injury, medical malpractice and wrongful death.”
- Ralph Alvarado wrote legislation making it harder to sue for medical malpractice while he was the Medical Director of several low-rated nursing homes.
Zach Dembo would make healthcare affordable for everyone:
- Reverse the disastrous Medicaid cuts
- Fight for a public option so everyone can have access to healthcare in this country
- Reinstate the Affordable Care Act tax credits that keep costs down
- Promote price transparency for medical procedures so people know exactly what they’re paying for
- Cap out of pocket expenses so providers can’t gouge vulnerable patients
- Reform and reduce administrative overhead and cut waste in the insurance industry
