BREAKING: The Cook Political Report Moves KY-06 to Toss Up
On the heels of Dembo’s debate victory, national race raters wake up to the battleground in the Bluegrass as public polls show Dembo in the lead
Lexington, KY – This morning, after a decisive debate victory for ninth-generation Kentuckian, former federal prosecutor, and Navy veteran Zach Dembo, the Cook Political Report determined Kentucky’s 6th Congressional District is one of the most competitive races in the nation and shifted their rating from “Lean Republican” to “Toss Up.”
This is their third KY-06 race rating shift moving the race in Dembo’s direction in just a little over three months.
Cook writes in part in their analysis:
“A perfect storm appears to be brewing for Democrats in Kentucky’s 6th District, where private polling shows a tied race, at best, for Republicans.
“Dembo, a former federal prosecutor and former aide to [Governor Andy Beshear], is now in an increasingly good position to flip this seat.”
Cook’s rate change follows a series of updates from other national rate raters, citing the enthusiasm behind Zach and his competitive campaign. The race raters also cited the lack of enthusiasm Republican voters have for Alvarado’s campaign and overall concerns with his close association with disgraced ex-Governor Matt Bevin.
Zach Dembo, former federal prosecutor and Navy veteran, released the following statement:
“I’ve said from the start that Central Kentuckians are sick and tired of the corrupt status quo that’s costing all of us at the gas pump and the grocery store. They want an independent voice who will show up and fight for them, regardless of political party.
“I’m glad these national organizations are taking notice of what’s obvious here on the ground, but we’re not going to let the D.C. pundits or party bosses change a thing about the campaign we’re running.
“We’ve got the momentum on our side and with less than two weeks left, we’re running through the tape full speed.”
